Kendall Cole Wise,
74, died Tuesday, February 20, 2007 of complications following heart
surgery.
He was born in West Lafayette, IN on September 8, 1932, one of three
children of Hugh E. Wise and Virginia Cole Wise (both deceased). He
was also preceded in death by his sister, Virginia W. Winsemann.
After graduating from the University of Florida in 1956 with a B.S.M.E.,
he continued his education at the University of Tennessee School of
Dentistry, graduating with a DDS in 1966 and in 1968 with a MS in Orthodontics.
He was Naples first orthodontist beginning his practice in 1968 and
retiring in 1991.
Coming from a family long associated with professional baseball, Casey
was a major league baseball player, an infielder, 1957 to 1960, with
three different clubs, the Chicago Cubs, the Milwaukee Braves and the
Detroit Tigers. While with the Braves he played in the 1958 World Series
against the Yankees.
During his many years as a Naples resident, he was active in community
affairs, serving several years as Chairman of the Grand Masters Tennis
Tournament for the benefits of the YMCA. He was past President of the
Naples chapter Rotary Club International and served as vice chairman
of the Big Cypress Basin of the South Florida Water Management District.
K.C. was himself an enthusiastic tennis player, many times winning the
Naples city championships in singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles.
He was also an avid boater through the years owning a number of vessels
all names "Owl." Aboard the Owl, with family and friends,
he enjoyed many summers seasons SCUBA diving and fishing in the Florida
Keys.
Surviving him are his wife, Joan P. Wise; his son, Dr. Kendall L. (Ruth)
Wise; and daughter, Kendra W. Shumake; granddaughters, Phoebe S. Wise
and Kendall L. Shumake; grandsons, Alexander C. Wise and Maximilian
J. Shumake, all of Naples; and his brother, Dr. Hugh E. Wise Jr. of
Gainesville, FL. Casey will be lovingly remembered by his patients,
friends and family and respected by all who knew him.
A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at the Trinity-By-TheCove
Church, 553 Galleon Drive, on Saturday, February 24th at 11:00 a.m.
