Adam Adubato, 85, Cincinnati Reds Scout

A Blessing for Adam Adubato, 85, of Ocean Gate, a former baseball scout for the Cincinnati Reds and father of WNBA New York Liberty coach Richie Adubato, will be given at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 270 Route 9, Bayville.

Mr. Adubato died Sunday in the Community Medical Center, Toms River.

He owned and operated the Exxon Service Station in Millburn for 30 years before retiring 20 years ago.

For more than 10 years, he was a scout for the Cincinnati Reds.

Mr. Adubato served as executive vice president of the semi-professional Essex County Baseball League during the 1950s and 1960s and was credited with helping players develop into professionals.

Born in Newark, he lived in East Orange before moving to Ocean Gate 20 years ago. Besides his son, Mr. Adubato is survived by a daughter, Valerie; a sister, Lenore; three grandchildren and a great- grandchild.
