Tiffin A. Zimmerman 88 formerly of Richmond died October 19, 2011 at Spring Mill Meadows in Indianapolis after a short illness. He was born March 28, 1923 in Waterford, Ohio to Charles and Elizabeth Fridley Zimmerman and lived in Richmond most of his life before moving to Indianapolis a year and a half ago.
Tiffin worked for Dietzen’s Bakery and Perfection Biscuit Company retiring after over 40 years; as a route salesman, sales manager, and district sales manager. He was an Army veteran of World War Two. He played professional baseball and basketball for the New York Giants and Fort Wayne Pistons farm clubs. He also played for the Richmond Roses Baseball team.
Tiffin was a 1941 graduate of Eaton, Ohio High School where he was a member of the baseball, basketball, and track teams. While in high school he pitched two no hit baseball games in one week. He was a member of the College Corner, Indiana Fast Pitch Softball Team, winning state championships in 1955 and 1956. He coached baseball for the Richmond Evening Optimist Club and American Legion, and was a member of the Liberty Golf Club.
Survivors include three children Donna Kay (Pat) Moran of Indianapolis, Tiff P. (Midge) Zimmerman of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Kelly Jean Garfield of Indianapolis, four grandchildren Ryan and Christopher Moran, Michael Garfield, and Ashley Zimmerman, three step grandchildren Pat “Packy” Moran, David and Bill Conrad, two step great grandchildren Michael and Jack Conrad, nieces and nephews.
His wife Gladys died March 22, 1992, his parents, and two sisters Mary Lombardi and Lela Zimmerman are also deceased.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday October 22, 2011 at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
