Walter Mayo Yowell, 82, of Madison, died on Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at the Martha Jefferson Hospital. He was born on January 6, 1930, in Etlan, Virginia, the son of the late Albon Waverly Yowell and Mary Elizabeth Hale Yowell.

Mr. Yowell was a former member and deacon of Beth Car Baptist Church and now a member of F. T. Baptist Church in Sperryville, where he grew up.

He played Minor League Baseball for the White Sox organization in the 50's, a businessman and Agri-Businessman in Madison for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Tinsley Powell Yowell of Madison; a daughter, Karen Yowell Warman and her husband, Matt, of Boston, Massachusetts; two sons, Carlton Mayo Yowell and his wife, Lynne, of Etlan, and Stuart Hale Yowell and his wife, Candy, of Williamsburg; two brothers; two sisters; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, February 12, 2012, at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison, with interment in Etlan Cemetery conducted by Pastor Dan Yowell. The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 p.m. Saturday, February 11, 2012, at the funeral home.
