Mr. Robert Yopp, age 58, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of November 1, 2011, while vacationing in Florida. He was born in Charlotte and remained a lifelong resident of the city.

He was a three sport star athlete at Charlotte Country Day School and attended Jacksonville University and later Mercer University on a baseball scholarship as a pitcher. After college, he signed with the Chicago Cubs organization and played two seasons of minor league baseball until shoulder injuries ended his baseball career.

Robert was an independent businessman and owner of Continental Landscaping Company in Charlotte. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed organizing weekly tournaments at area courses for his many golfing friends.

He is survived by his son, Joseph Baker, of Charlotte, and by his four siblings, Sally Gleason, Orange, CA; Ed Yopp, Macon, GA; Amy Sullivan, Medford, NY; and Tom Yopp, of Charlotte.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ira T. Yopp, Jr. and Sarah Ann Yopp of Charlotte.

The family is very grateful to Robert's many friends and golf buddies for the years of companionship and fun that you shared with him. He was blessed by your great friendship.
