MT. HOLLY -- Carroll
Wright, 79, died Wednesday, December 26th at Presbyterian Hospital. A
native of Gaston County, he was the son of the late N.A. Wright and Sallie
Self Wright.
He retired from Duke Energy after 31 years of service and was a member
of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Charlotte for more than 37 years. An avid
sports fan, his favorite teams were the Carolina Panthers and N.C. State
Basketball. He played professional baseball with the Lincolnton Cardinals
where he was named MVP for two consecutive years. He was a member of the
Cowans Ford Country Club in Denver where he enjoyed playing golf.
He is survived by loving family members, his wife of 61 years, Fay Goins
Wright; son, Dean G. Wright (Wendy Gallagher) of Monroe; daughter, Carol
W. Purser (Mike), of Matthews; daughter-in-law, Pam Wright of Charlotte;
grandchildren, Shannon and Meredith Wright, Gary Wright (Jennifer), Kelly
Jan (Andy); Lindsay Knowles, Josh and Jaime Purser; great-grandchildren,
Knowles Taylor, Caroline Fay Jan and Hanna Jan; sister-in-law, Eudell
Wright of Cherryville; a number of dear nieces, nephews; and very special
friends, The Jack Phillips Family of Charlotte.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, December 29, 2007 at
Hillcrest Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Gerald Bearden and Reverend
Randy Patterson officiating. Interment will follow the service in the
Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior
to the service at the church Saturday beginning at 11:00 AM.
