will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 20, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church
in Sauk Rapids for Donald P. Wichmann, age 82, who died Sunday at his
home. Rev. Harvey Ehlers will officiate and burial will be in the church
Friends and relatives may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Williams Dingmann
Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids and one hour prior to the services Friday
at the church. Sauk Rapids VFW Post 6992 will pray at 6:00 p.m., followed
by Sauk Rapids American Legion Post 254 at 6:30 p.m., and Trinity Lutheran
prayers at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Donald P. Wichmann was born Aug. 5, 1928 in Sauk Rapids to Julius &
Emma (Smolnik) Wichmann. He served his country in the U.S. Army during
the Korean War. Don married Fern Dahlbloom on Sept. 26, 1953 at Gethsemane
Lutheran Church in Hopkins.
He lived in the Sauk Rapids area all his life and was a car man for Burlington
Northern Railroad for 34 years, retiring in 1983.
Don was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was a Deacon, Sauk
Rapids American Legion Post 254, and Sauk Rapids VFW Post 6992.
He played minor league baseball in Carthage, MO and on a number of local
and regional baseball and basketball teams in the area.
Survivors include his wife, Fern of Sauk Rapids; daughters, Carol Bares
of Minnetonka and Rosemary Wichmann of Minnetonka; grandson, Kyle Bares
of Los Angeles, CA; and additional family members, Ganchimeg Khaltarkhuu
of Sauk Rapids and Cheryl Schroeder of Waldport, OR.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; twin sister, Dorthea Wichmann;
and brothers, Wallace Wickman and Arthur Wichman.
Memorials are preferred.
