Lawrence C. Whiteley, of Broken Arrow, died March 30, 2010 at Claremore Regional Hospital. Larry was born April 8, 1932 in Okay, Oklahoma, the son of Earl and Elsie Whiteley.

Larry received his Masters of Science in Ed from Tulsa University where he attended on scholarship and was a 3-year Varsity letterman in basketball for the Golden Hurricane under Coach Iba. He played minor league baseball following graduation in Orlando, Florida before his draft into the US Army where he proudly served his country.

Upon his return, he began his career as educator and coach for Liberty Mounds Schools. Larry then accepted a position as head basketball coach with Broken Arrow Schools, where he moved on to become counselor, principal and after 35 years of dedicated service, retired as Assistant Superintendent of Personnel for Broken Arrow Schools. The “silver fox” touched many lives young and old during his years of dedicated service. He will be joyfully remembered for his sense of humor and seeing the best in everyone he met.

Larry is survived by his wife, Virginia whom he spent 54 wonderful years, his 2 daughters, Teri Destreza and Julee Hill, and son, Greg Whiteley. He has 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 2nd at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 400 N. Aspen Avenue, Broken Arrow. The viewing will be on Thursday, April 1st from 1p.m. – 9 p.m. at Floral Haven Funeral Home, 6500 S. 129th E. Avenue. 252-2518.
