BARTOW - Darwin S. Westberry of Bartow died Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at his residence due to natural causes. He was 97.

Born January 19, 1915 in Jessup, Georgia; Mr. Westberry moved to Daytona Beach at an early age. He was a builder and served as chief building official for the City of Ormond Beach and Volusia County.

Known by "Doc" to his friends and family, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He played semi-professional baseball and served in World War II in the United States Coast Guard.

Ruth Westberry, his beloved wife of 66 years preceded him in death in 2002. Survivors include two sons, Michael S. Westberry of Bartow and wife, Pam, and Daniel D. Westberry of Ormond Beach. He leaves four devoted grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
