Mr. Webb, age 82, of Charlotte, NC, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 20, 2011, at Harris Hospice in Charlotte.

He was born on August 14, 1928, in Gaffney, SC, to Broadus Lee Webb and Nancy McMahan Webb.

He was a WWII veteran, having served his country in the U.S. Navy from December 19, 1945, until his honorable discharge on October 27, 1947. He served on the aircraft carrier Saidor and was present during Operation Crosswords, the Atomic Bomb Test as Bikini Atoll. He received the American Area Medal and the Victory Medal World War II.

He played baseball for the American Legion Post #9, Charlotte, in 1944 and 1950. He also played outfielder for the Atlanta Baseball Corp. from 1948-49.

He married Margaret Gregory on January 8, 1950, in York, SC.

Mr. Webb was employed with Highland Park Textile Mills for twenty years and retired from Westinghouse in 1991 after twenty-one years of service.

Mr. Webb lived life to the fullest.

He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church for fifty years where he served as Deacon, Adult Class teacher, and choir member. His wife Margaret to whom he was married to for fifty-seven years, his five children, and his ten grandchildren, were always a very important part of his life. He was also known for his unselfish love for family and friends.

His family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, from 10-11 a.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 9000 Mount Holly Rd, Charlotte, NC (704)394-5075, immediately followed by his Celebration of Life service at 11 a.m. The Reverends Jon Hall and James Spangler will officiate. Interment with military graveside rites will be held at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, NC, at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 23rd. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Survivors include his five children: Sandra Mangum and husband Jerry, and Johnny Webb and wife Linda, all of Charlotte; Donna Stokes and husband Bill, Greensboro, NC; Susan Hill and husband Tony, York, SC; and Lisa Goforth and husband Doug, Matthews, NC; and nine grandchildren: Greg and Jason Mangum; Daniel Hill; Matthew Webb; Stephen Hill; Monica Webb; Thomas Hill; and Melody and Christina Goforth; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Margaret; his cherished granddaughter, Lynn Marie Stokes; his two sisters, Ruby Philmon and Lois Hines; and his two brothers, Charles and Max Webb.
