Edward J. Watro,
90 Years, of Whitehall Manor, passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon
May 1, 2010.
Born in Hazleton of the Catholic Faith to the late John and Sophia (Shenkoski)
Watro, he was the husband of the late Helen A. (Ushock) Watro for 62 years
at the time of her death on January 2, 2010. They married on May 18, 1947.
A 1937 graduate of Hazleton High School, Edward proudly served his Country
during World War II attaining the rank of Corporal with the Army 219th
AAA Gunnery Battalion stationed in Saipan.
Prior to leaving for the war he played professional baseball with the
Boston Braves organization for many years. Later in life he retired from
sales working for different companies in the PA and NY areas.
Survivors: Daughter, Barbara Caiazza and her
husband Emil of Lindenhurst, NY; Sons, Edward J. Watro of Allentown and
his companion Mary Anne Connolly of Stroudsburg, Gregory J. Watro and
his wife Denise (Hein) of Bath; Sisters, Rita MacNeal and her husband
Nate of Hazleton, Sonya Petruzzi of Phoenix, AZ; Brother, John Watro and
his wife Kay of Chevy Chase, MD; Grandchildren, Stephanie and her companion
Anthony Kutzler, Gregory Jr., Chelsea, Tyler and Christopher, with the
first great grandchild expected in July.
Predeceased by infant son, Mark in 1948, along with brother, Emil.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, May 6, 2010, in the Gilbert Funeral Home,
444 Pershing Blvd., Whitehall, located 1 block south of the Fullerton
Ave. exit of Route 22.
His viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Resurrection
Cemetery, Upper Macungie Twp.
