contractor, WWII Army veteran,
Samuel J. 'Gibbo' Warney, 82, of Weeki Wachee, Fla., passed away on Saturday,
March 1, 2008, at Oak Hill Hospital. Mr. Warney will be laid to rest at
Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
He was born in Throop, Pa., and came to Florida 18 years ago from Green
Brook. He was a Catholic and a member of St. Frances Cabrini Church. Mr.
Warney served in the U.S. Army during World War II and played professional
baseball with the Philadelphia farm team.
He was a self-employed building contractor. Mr. Warney was a member of
the Glen Lakes Country Club and was an avid pigeon racer.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Dottie of Weeki Wachee; son,
Paul Warney of Dunellen; daughters, Patricia Grasso of Palm Harbor, Fla.,
Marianne Marotta of Bridgewater, Christine Getz of Green Brook and Carolyn
Lenetti of Jackson; sister of Jo Ann Matulo of Yardley, Pa.; brother,
Theodore Warney of Throop, Pa.; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
