John Louis Walz, 82, of Mount Airy, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at his son's home in Mount Airy.
Born June 14, 1930, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late John and Rose Vasik Walz. He was the husband of Dorothy "Dot" Walz, his wife of more than 61 years.
He was a professional baseball player, pitching for the Wilmington Blue Rocks and later with the Philadelphia Phillies. He had worked for Baltimore Typing and Composition Company. He served in the Army during the Korean War.
He was co-owner, with his father, of Walz Egg Ranch before retiring to Beverly Hills, Fla., where he was a handy man for numerous friends. He was also an amateur artist.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, is a son, Bruce John Walz, of Mount Airy.
A gathering of friends will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield.
