LAFAYETTE, Ga. — James Henry Walthall, 85, of LaFayette, Ga., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012. He was born to the late Wilbur Walthall and Lena Walthall Von Perbandt in Princeton, W.Va. on May 8, 1926.

He retired from the Mercer County School District where he taught and coached at Haywood High School.

James was a Veteran of the United States Army, graduated from West Virginia University where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball. He received a total of seven letters while at West Virginia University and was also named a two time Amateur Athlete of the Year in West Virginia and inducted into the West Virginia University Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.

Survivors include his wife, Dot Brewster Walthall of LaFayette, Ga.; son, James “Jamie” Walthall of Morgantown, W.Va.; stepchildren, Sheila (J.C.) Meyer of Clearwater, Fla., Mary (George) Dunagan of West Union, S.C., Horace C. Brewster Jr. of Longbeach, Calif., Bobby (Woody) Brewster of LaFayette, Ga.; brother, Earl Walthall of St. Augustine, Fla.; sister, Betty Gates of Princeton, W.Va.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be private. Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Homes-LaFayette Chapel, LaFayette, Ga.
