Richard J. ‘Dick’
Richard J. “Dick” Walter of Plainwell passed away Friday morning, Oct. 22, 2010.
Dick was born June 13, 1937, in Sommerville, Mass., and was proud to say he was raised on Cape Cod. He was a pitcher with the Detroit Tigers until an arm injury forced him to discontinue pro baseball. Dick bowled in several major leagues in the Kalamazoo and Plainwell area and had a high average of 211.
Dick also played the drums in several local bands, was the top hair stylist in Plainwell for many years and was a member of the Otsego Moose.
Surviving are his sons, Brent Walter of Portland, Ore., and Darin Walter of Los Angeles, Calif.; his sister, Joan Kitch of Flushing; step-mother, Alberta Walter of York, Pa.; and many dear friends, including his longtime buddy Skip “Wormie” Warner.
A memorial service to celebrate Dick’s life will be Sunday Nov. 21, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the Plainwell Lanes, 575 10th St. Memorials may be directed to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the Allegan County Animal Shelter.
