Robert Edward "Doc" Wall

MOUNT AIRY - Mr. Robert Edward "Doc" Wall, 76, of Mount Airy
passed away on Monday, April 28, 2008, after a courageous battle with
cancer at Northern Hospital of Surry County.
Mr. Wall was born May 18, 1931, in Surry County, the son of the late Duke
and Gellean Taylor Wall. Mr. Wall was a golf pro in Plant City, Fla.,
for 10 years before returning to Mount Airy Country Club in 1976, where
he served as golf pro for 20 years.
He was a former player for the Graniteers professional baseball team,
and was inducted into the Mount Airy Sports Hall of Fame in 2007. Mr.
Wall was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Nell Wall of the home; a son and daughter-in-law,
Wes and Tammy Wall of Bermuda Run; two stepgrandchildren, Brittany Jones
and Richard Jones III, both of Bermuda Run; and a sister, Shirley Tillotson
of Mount Airy.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, at
Flat Rock Baptist Church, with the Rev. Todd E. Byrd officiating. Burial
will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, with military honors conducted by VFW
Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain.
The family will visit with friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 30,
at Flat Rock Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made
to Flat Rock Baptist Church, P.O. Box 587, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody
Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Wall family.
