RAYMOND VON HAGEL "PAW PAW" Jr.

VON HAGEL, RAYMOND EUGENE, JR., "PAW PAW" age 75, of Gardendale, AL passed away on August 12, 2009. Mr. Von Hagel was an active member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and was a retired firefighter with the City of Birmingham.

While attending Howard College he played basketball, and for two years he played minor league baseball with the Philadelphia Phillies, after baseball he spent many years involved and coaching in Gardendale Little League.

Mr. Von Hagel was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen Von Hagel; 2 brothers, Alvin and Edward Von Hagel.

He is survived by his son, Bruce Von Hagel of Hoover; daughter, Laura Von Hagel of Gardendale; sister, Alice Slatsky of Minor; two grandchildren, Davis Von Hagel and Greyson Von Hagel, both of Hoover; daughter-in-law, Donna Von Hagel; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church with burial to follow in Oakwood Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 14, 2009 from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. at the church with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in memory of Raymond Von Hagel.
