Joseph J. Volk, "Uncle Joe," passed away July 18, 2009. He was born in Cisero, Ill., but lived most of his life in Portland. He served as a Portland firefighter for 25 years.

Joe was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt. He had also played professional baseball. The last Volk of his generation, Joe had four brothers, two of whom were professional boxers.

There will be a family reunion in his memory.

Joe will be laid to rest in Willamette National Cemetery.
