Donald C. Voigt, 78, of Montgomery passed away at his home surrounded by his family on February 6, 2009. He was born on January 31, 1931 in Litchfield, IL, the son of Carl and Elfrieda Voigt. He served with the U.S. Army in Japan from 1952 to 1954.

Don was an avid baseball player and a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs. In 1951 he played fast pitch softball for State Farm Ins. Co in Bloomington, IL, from 1954-1955 he played in the Minor League for the Chicago Cubs 3 I League in Burlington, IA then in 1956 Don played in the Western League and later in 1967-1969 he played fast pitch for Aurora Seal Masters.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Helen; his children, Lisa Whitt of Yorkville, IL and David Voigt of Lisle, IL, granddaughters Jillian and Alise Whitt; sister, Carol (Roger) Goodman of Mt. Olive, IL; sisters-in-law, Marie House of Amarillo, TX, Frances Mickelson of Keokuk, IA; and brother-in-law, Joe Macko of Arlington, TX; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and one sister-in-law, Dorothy Macko.

Family will be receiving guests on Monday, February 9, 2009 from 4:00-7:00, pm at Dieterle Memorial Home 1120 South Broadway Avenue Funeral will be on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 10:00 am, at the Memorial Home. Interment will follow at St. Paul Cemetery, Montgomery, IL.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Seasons Hospice, his Aide Dee and his Nurse Leslie for the love and care that was shown to Don throughout his illness.
