Arturo ("Art") Verrengia, 96, of Pico Rivera passed away from natural causes on Thursday, December 22, 2011.

He was at home and in the company of his son, Louis Verrengia, and daughter, Teresa Verrengia Garcia. He is also survived by his son, John Verrengia, 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Born February 8, 1915, in Providence, Rhode Island, Art moved with his family to Los Angeles in 1923. He married Mary Cecelia Castro Verrengia on June 7, 1941. Art spent time in minor league baseball as well as time with the Chicago Cubs from 1938 to 1940. A veteran of World War II, Art served as an Army medic with tours in Italy, Africa and India. Art retired after 44 years with the Pioneer-Flintcote Company in Vernon, CA.

A rosary in Art's memory will be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 5, at Morrow's Del Angel Mortuary in Pico Rivera.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, January 6, at St. Marianne's Catholic Church. Art will lay to rest with his wife at Calvary Cemetery in Los Angeles.
