Robert A. Umstead,
81, died Saturday, March 8, 2008, at Bartley Nursing and Rehab, Jackson,
He was born in Hilltown Twp., Bucks County. Graduated from Doylestown
H.S. Class of 1944. Served two years in the Army. He was married to Betty
(Hader) Umstead by the late John E. Wildasin at Dublin Reformed Church,
February 12, 1955.
He resided in Quakertown most of his life before moving to Manchester,
N.J. five years ago. He loved and participated in all sports, including
two seasons as a professional baseball player with the Brooklyn Dodgers
organizations farm system.
He also enjoyed dancing, especially square dancing and polka dancing with
his loving wife, Betty. He worked many years as a partner in the Umstead
Bros. Logging Company procuring timber for local mills and export.
Survivors: Daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Robert Neiderer of Jackson,
N.J.; brother and sister-in-law Edwin and Jean Umstead of Fountainville,
Pa.; sister Edith Fretz of New Britain, Pa.
Services: A memorial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at St. Lukes
United Church of Christ, 141 S. Main St., Dublin, PA 18917.
