Melvin Louis Triay,
Jr. died peacefully at his residence on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at the
age of 81.
Son of the late Melvin Louis Triay, Sr. and Edna Decker Triay born on
March 27, 1928, he was a native of New Orleans and resident of Metairie,
LA.
Beloved husband of Jane Talbot Triay, loving father of Melvin L. Triay,
III and Janelle "Susie" T. Reynolds, father-in-law of Diane
S. Triay and Gary F. Reynolds, affectionate grandfather of Scott F. Reynolds,
Stephanie R. Boh, Michelle R. Dessauer, Melvin L. Triay, IV, Yvette M.
Triay, and Caroline A. Triay, great-grandfather of Riley R. Boh.
Melvin was a S. J. Peters High School Graduate. After serving in the Marine
Corp, he played minor league baseball for the Cleveland Indians Organization
in Daytona, Beach for three years. He returned to New Orleans and went
to work in the electrical business until he retired from Siemens in 1992.
After Melvin retired, he was active in a number of ministries at St. Clement
of Rome Catholic Church, including delivering "Meals on Wheels",
being an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, and being a song leader
in church.
He was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus and PKG of Charles
Carroll Council, a member of the Equestrian Order of Knights of the Holy
Sepulcher, and a charter member of the East Jefferson Serra Club.
He was also a Past Captain of the "Pirates Crew" and a long
time retreatant at Manresa House of Retreats. He was an avid sailor, past
president of the New Orleans Yacht Club, and raced in the Portsmith Class
with family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation and Funeral
Mass. Visitation will be at Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal
Street, New Orleans, LA, on Friday, March 26, 2010 between the hours of
7:00 P.M. and 9:00 P.M. and on Saturday, March 27, from 9:00 A.M. until
11:00 A.M.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church,
4317 Richland Avenue at West Esplanade Ave., Metairie, LA 70002 on Saturday,
March 27, 2010 at 11:30 A.M.
Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Guest book may be signed
