Toman, 86 of Binghamton, NY passed away peacefully on Thursday August
30, 2012 with his family by his side.
He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Hilda Toman; two brothers,
Paul, Jr., and Robert Toman.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Eleanor (Ellie) (Kozak)
Toman, Binghamton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen "Kate"
and Richard "Arn" Artessa, Susan and James Tormey, all of Syracuse;
four grandchildren, Marielle and Lianna Artessa, Andrew (Kelly) and Colleen
Tormey; one sister, Lillian Babicek, Endwell; one sister-in-law, Sheila
Toman; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jerry was a member of St. James Church, Johnson City. He was a lifelong
resident of the Triple Cities and received his BS Degree from Harpur College.
He proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1944-1946.
Most everyone in the area knew him as "Mr. Baseball". He was
the general manager of the Triplet Baseball Club from 1953-1968, the Triple-A
Yankee Farm Team.
His love of baseball and the New York Yankee Organization were superseded
only by the love for his wife and family.
Following his baseball career, he began a career as a stockbroker at George
DB Bonbright and retired from Shearson Lehman Hutton. People could also
find Jerry behind the counter helping his wife at Loft's Cards and Gifts
Store, Johnson City.
He was an active board member of the Johnson City Senior Citizens, a former
member of the Binghamton Club, Binghamton Lions Club, and was the head
usher at St. James Church 5 p.m. Mass.
Jerry was an avid sports fan, loved gardening and reading, but most of
all just being with his family.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. James Church, Monday at 12 p.m.
The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the
time of the Funeral Mass.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions to St.
James Church Memorial Fund, 147 Main Street, Johnson City, NY 13790 or
the charity of one's choice in Jerry Toman's memory.
