Vance Thurston 1929 - 2011 Vance Thurston was born on February 16, 1929 in Long Beach, CA to Jack and Halcyone Thurston. He left us on June 22, 2011, comfortably at this home in Palm Desert, CA.

Vance attended Long Beach Wilson High School, where he excelled in sports and upon graduation signed to play professional baseball for four years, before being drafted into the Army and served two years, attaining the rank of sergeant.

He married his high school sweetheart, Martha Ann Thurston, who predeceased him in 1971. Vance went on to serve as a firefighter for the city of Long Beach for 31 years.

He retired to Palm Desert, CA to enjoy many days of golf and the constant flow of family and friends who came to visit and enjoy his wonderful disposition. He was truly a pleasure to be around! Along with golf,

Vance was an avid tennis player, who enjoyed his trips to Wimbledon, the Australian Open, the U.S. Open, which was arranged by his beloved daughter, Annalee, who predeceased him in 2007.

Vance is survived by his three sons, Robert (Kathy), James, and Ronald (Margaret), along with his extended Breithaupt, Muenzer families, many grandchildren, Brett, Bryan, Jack, Steven, Amanda, Nikki, Troy, Scotty, Brandon, Kara, Trent and Krista.

Services will be held at Westminster Memorial Park on July 1 at 12:00 p.m., 14801 Beach Boulevard, Westminster, CA.
