Lyle V. Thompson, 96,
of Evansville passed away June 20, 2010, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
Lyle was born on October 19, 1913, in Union County, Ky., to the late William
C. and Louise C. (Neiswender) Thompson. He graduated from Reitz High School.
Lyle was a longtime member at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
He retired from the Evansville Police Department in 1974 after serving
28 years, the last 20 years as a Detective. He retired again in 1978 from
the Centurion Credit Union.
He played professional baseball for several teams in the Northern and
Southern League including the St. Louis Cardinals Organization.
Lyle was a pilot and enjoyed woodworking. He loved fishing and boating
at his place on Kentucky Lake. He was also a member of the Daniel Boone
Gun Club where he won numerous awards for his pistol sharp shooting.
He is survived by his stepson, Paul G. (LuAnn) Pearce; grandchildren,
Greg (Aimee) Pearce, Matthew (Rachel) Pearce, John Pearce; great-grandchildren,
Samantha and Colin Pearce.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Coleman (Cody) Thompson,
wife, Geneva Thompson, who passed away in 1980, and his second wife, Dorothy
Pearce Thompson, who passed away in November of 2008.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 24, 2010, at Browning
Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Avenue, with Pastor Chad Eckels officiating.
Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Evansville.
Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from
9 a.m. to service time Thursday.
