David A. Thieke
Mr. David A. Thieke, 86, of Perks, Ill, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, at 7:15 p.m. at the Spring Creek Rehab Center in Murray.
Mr. Thieke was retired from the Bunny Bread Company of Anna, Ill. after 30 years of service driving a delivery truck.
Mr. Thieke was a member of the Karnak United Methodist Church, he was a veteran of World War II and he was a duel member of the Cypress Masonic Lodge and Grand Chain Masonic Lodge where he had served as a Master Mason.
Mr. Thieke signed a contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers in the mid 1940's as a pitcher in their AAA Farm Club System. He played baseball for Mobile, Ala., Elmyra, N.Y., and Danville, Ill.. While pitching in Danville, Mr. Thieke was voted the "Outstanding Pitcher" in that league. He is survived by two sons: Mike and wife Suzzie Thieke of Kirksey, and Jerry Thieke of Metropolis, Ill. One sister, Rita Farmer and husband Bob of Bloomington, Ill. Two grandsons; John David Thieke of Atlanta, Ga. and Taylor Thieke of Murray. Two great grandsons, Madison and Spencer Thieke.
Mr. Thieke was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Marjorie Casper Thieke. His parents were John and Birdie Thomas Thieke, one grandson, Jordan Thieke, one sister, Mary Alice Tapley.
Funeral services for Mr. David A. Thieke will be conducted Saturday afternoon, Aug. 21 at 1 p.m.
At the Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak, Ill. with Rev. Alan Milligan officiating. Internment will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery near Dongola, IL. Visitation will be Saturday morning from 11 a.m. until the hour of the funeral. Wilson Funeral Home in charge of services.
