Eugene Streng, resident of Upper Arlington for over 60 years, passed away
March 19, 2013.
He was born on October 16, 1920 in Marysville, Ohio.
Preceded in death by loving wife Doris, parents Peter and Martha Streng,
sister Ernestine Opphile, brothers Donald, Arthur and Richard.
He is survived by son, Terry (Lisa) Streng; daughter, Saundra Streng;
grandchildren, Matthew and Megan Streng, and Andrea and Alyssa Dodd; sister,
Lucille Dunbar; and several nephews and nieces.
Eugene played professional baseball with the St. Louis Browns organization
before enlisting in the Navy in 1942.
He earned his wings and became a Naval Aviator and advanced to the rank
of Lieut. J.G.
After serving he spent his career as an insurance adjuster with GAB and
retired from Proprietors Insurance with over 35 years in the field.
He served as Commissioner of the UA baseball and football Association.
A member of Upper Arlington Lutheran Church for over 50 years, he also
was a past member of both the Swiss and Germania singing clubs.
Family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2013 at SCHOEDINGER
NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Columbus.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Upper Arlington Lutheran
Church, 2300 Lytham Rd., Columbus, OH 43220, Rev. Reuben Mellum, officiating.
Family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment to follow services at Union Cemetery with a reception afterwards
at the church.
Family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Upper Arlington
Lutheran Church, The American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
