Joe played professional baseball in the Dodger's Organization. He was the chief umpire in the Omaha area for over 30 years and also the Nebraska State Athletic Commissioner. Joe was the owner of Buck's Shoes in South Omaha.

He was preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Benedicta.

He is survived by wife, Helen "Sis"; children, Joey (Theresa) Stanek, Mark Stanek, Michaela (Duane) Patterson, Janeane (Mike) Whitney, Terry (Kareen) Stanek; 13 grandchildren, Katie, Melanie, Kyle, Erica, Sara, Jessica, Josh, Jake, Nick, Brian, Kristen, Kendyl, Brielle; 2 great grandchildren, Dylan and Caleb; sister, Kathryn (John) Groth; brother-in-law, Don (Ann) Mickells; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Begley, Irene (Mike) Black; nieces and nephews.

In Joe's unselfish way, he donated his body to science.

VISITATION with the family begins, 4pm Tuesday with 7pm Wake Service at Assumption Catholic Church, 22nd and U Street. MEMORIAL MASS 10:30am Wednesday at Assumption Catholic Church.
