David Webster Spraker,
84, of Galax, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at
Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
He was born in Galax on April 22, 1927, to Harry Pierce and Callie Beasley
Spraker. He graduated from Galax High School in 1945 and joined the Navy,
where he served in the Pacific, and was discharged in July 1946. He then
attended Campbell College; and after graduation, he played a year of professional
Throughout his business career, he was a bookkeeper, an office manager,
and a salesman. He was a lifelong member of Galax First United Methodist
Church, where he served on the Administrative Board, was a choir member,
was Sunday School class president, and superintendent of Sunday School.
He was a member of the Galax Y's Men's Club, since it was established
in 1949 and had served in various offices of the club. He was the last
surviving charter member. His main hobby was golf, and he had served as
chairman of the Blue Ridge Country Club.
His parents, and two sisters, Catherine Spraker and Helen Spraker Crockett,
preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Rexene Davis Spraker; son and
daughter-in-law, Tim and Rhonda Spraker; two grandsons, David Andrew and
Derek Spraker; niece and husband, Judy and Jerry Wolford; two great-nephews,
John and Jack Wolford; greatgreat-nephews, Grant and David Wolford, brother-in-law,
Joe J. Davis; and his sons, Kelly and Joey; and his daughter, Melissa.
The Funeral Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 17, 2011,
at the Galax First United Methodist Church, where the family will receive
friends from 1 until 2:30 p.m.
The service will conclude with burial at Monta Vista Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Galax

Galax Y's Men's Club, P.O. Box 738, Galax, VA 24333.
