William J. Spirko,
Jr., 83, passed away on February 14, 2013 at Bayonne Medical Center with
his loving family by his side. Born in Bayonne, Mr. Spirko was a lifelong
Mr. Spirko was a retired Ser-geant First Class with the New Jersey State
Police as well as a retired New Jersey Local 45 Iron-worker. He also proudly
served his country as a United States Marine.
Mr. Spirko played Minor League Baseball, served as a superintendent of
the Hudson County Youth House and coached baseball for the Bayonne Little
League and basketball for St. Andrew's School.
Mr. Spirko was currently an usher at St. Andrew's Church, a volunteer
at the St. John's Soup Kitchen, Newark and a member of the Holy Name Society.
Mr. Spirko is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Spirko (Leahey); his
loving daughters, Nancy Spirko-Peets and her husband Art, and BJ Burke
and her husband, Eddie; his adoring grandchildren, EJ Burke and Kristyn
Burke-Valley and her husband, Dave; his dear sisters, Joan Donovan and
Peggy Mulkern; many cherished nieces and nephews; and many loving friends.
He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Winiferd (Burns) and William
J. Spirko, Sr.
The funeral will be conducted by Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Tuesday,
February 19, 2013. A funeral Mass will be offered at St. Andrew the Apostle
Church at 9:30 a.m., followed by cremation at Rosehill Crematory, Linden.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 18, 2013 from 3:00 to 7:00
p.m. Dona-tions may be made to the St. John's Soup Kitchen, 22 Mul-berry
Street, Newark, New Jersey.
