Orton Craig Sorensen
A much loved husband and friend passed away at his home on December 28th, 2012. Craig was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 31, 1935.
He is preceded in death by his father Charles Warren Sorensen and Myrtle Orton Sorensen, his brother Charles Warren Sorensen Jr., and his sister in law Stella Glenn Sorensen. He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy Harding Sorensen.
Craig graduated from Yuma Union High School in 1953, earning letters in football, basketball and baseball. He graduated from University of Arizona in 1957 with a BA degree in general business and played four years on the University of Arizona baseball team, earning All American Honors from the American Association of Baseball Coaches.
He signed a professional baseball contract with the Chicago Cubs in 1957 and played until 1965. His work experience included Hamilton Equipment Company and then Holmes Tuttle Ford until retirement in 2005.
He was an avid golfer, playing at Oro Valley Country Club three or four times a week. He loved sports, especially baseball and golf, and attended many University of Arizona sports events. He is in the University of Arizona Sports Hall of Fame. Craig enjoyed good food, good friends and thought life was “just right.”
A celebration of his life will be at Resurrection Lutheran Church, First Avenue, Oro Valley, AZ on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 2:00pm. He loved to fix or “tried to fix” anything broken before buying a new one and never wanted to part with anything in his workshop! He probably has more golf clubs than most since he would never give any away. I’m sure he retrieved more balls from the water hazard than any of his playing partners. He loved and was loved.
