AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Friday, May 22, 2009, at Trinity Hospital of Augusta,

Mr. Charles L. Smalley, Jr., 80, husband of Anita Downs Smalley.

Mr. Smalley was a native and life long resident of Augusta. He was a US Army veteran serving in Korea. He worked at Walker Ford for 20 years and owned Smalley Auto Sales for 18 years until retirement.

He was a member of Warren Baptist Church where he volunteered 17 years in the kitchen, served as secretary of the children's department and was a member of the Muns Men's Sunday School Class.

Mr. Smalley was an avid golfer and played semi-professional baseball in Dublin, GA

Family members in addition to his wife include his son: Charles Lee Smalley III of Atlanta; granddaughters: Elizabeth Ann Smalley, Caroline Walton Smalley; sister-in- law: Norma Downs Page of Sebring, FL; brother-in-law: Charles L. Downs, Jr. and wife Lorraine of Sandersville, GA and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Dave Dillard officiating. Pallbearers will be Buddy Gardner, James Paschal, Tony Heard, Billy Johnson, Lewis Muns and Roy Reville. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Murphy Golf Group and the Warren Baptist Church Kitchen Crew.

Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park.
