age 92, passed away Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at Hallmark Nursing &
Rehabilitation Center, Denver Colorado. Born in South River he was a life
long borough resident.
Stanley was an avid baseball player, playing for several semi pro teams
in central New Jersey. He also played minor league baseball with Bridgeport,
Connecticut, and the Topeka Kansas Owls.
Before his retirement in 1981 he was employed for 24 years by Field Enterprises
Education Corp., publishers of the World Book Encyclopedia, retiring as
Regional Manager for the Middlesex County area and prior to that for Ford
Motor Company in Edison from 1948 to 1957 and before World War II for
Bakelite Corp in Bound Brook. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War
II serving in the Naval Air Corp. Mr. Slaktowicz was a life long communicant
of Saint Mary of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in South River where he was a
member of the Holy Name Society.
Stanley is predeceased by his beloved wife of 59 years, Sophie Iwanski
Slaktowicz, his infant son Thomas, his parents Stanislaw and Malwina,
his sister Hedwig Bartholomew and his brother Michael Slaktowicz. Surviving
are his sons and their wives Robert & Linell Slaktowicz of Portland,
Maine and Peter & Kyle Slaktowicz with whom he lived in Littleton,
Colorado, his grandchildren Tracy, Christopher and Nichole of Littleton,
Colorado, and his sister Mary Wilk of South River.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday 8:30am from the Maliszewski Funeral
Home, 281 Whitehead Avenue, South River followed by a 9am mass at Saint
Mary of Ostrabrama R. C. Church in South River with burial to follow at
Saint Mary's Cemetery, East Brunswick.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 2pm to 4pm and
7pm to 9pm. Members of Saint Mary of Ostrabrama Holy Name Society will
meet Tuesday 8pm at the funeral home for services.
