Bruce G. Shelton, 68, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at his home. He was born October 5, 1940, in Evansville.

Bruce worked at Chrysler and Whirlpool, where he eventually retired. He had a minor-league baseball contract with the Milwaukee Braves, and at one time caught for both Sandy Koufax and Phil Niekro, which he was very proud of.

In 1958, he played for Eugene Pate Legion and was drafted that summer to play for the York, Pennsylvania farm team of the Braves. Bruce had a passion for Corvettes and baseball.

Bruce is survived by his aunt, Ailene J. Cowgill of New Harmony, Ind.; uncle, Earl Frederick Cooper of Evansville; and many cousins and friends.

Graveside services will be held 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Tupman Cemetery. Friends may visit Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Alexander West Chapel.
