John C. Senkowitz Sr.
He was born Jan. 31, 1936, in Young-stown, the son of the late John and Catherine Czechowski Senkowitz.
He was a 1954 graduate from Warren G. Harding High School and was a member of St. William Roman Catholic Church.
John worked at Charlanne Farms in Southington for 17 years as a meat cutter. Mr. Senkowitz formerly owned a grocery store and bar, the S&J Ideal Foods for 10 years and the Sky Way Tavern for one year.
In his early years, John played for a Cleveland Indians farm team for two years; he coached with the Champion Athletic Club; he was a "jack of all trades;" he did carving, woodworking and painting; and he was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Survivors include his wife, the former Donna E. Shively, whom he married on Sept. 15, 1956; three children, John C. (Julie) Senkowitz Jr. of Acworth, Ga., Kathleen (Jay) Kennelty of Homer, Ark., and Jackie (David) Demera-Karenke of Champion; four grandchildren, Jacob and Jeremy Pawcio, and Devon Kennelty and Jack Senkowitz, III; three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Dillon and Meriah Pawcio; one brother, Richard (JoAnn) Senkowitz of Champion; and one sister, Bernice Kubinski of Warren.
Other than his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Senkowitz; his sister, Mildred Bobbey; and his grandson, Ralph Demera.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael D. Balash will celebrate his life. Family and friends may visit from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Warren.
