Robert J. Seebold, 87, Sunbury

SUNBURY — Robert J. Seebold, 87, a former resident of Corcyra Road, passed away Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, in the Nazareth Memory Center, Danville.
He was born in Northumberland on Dec. 29, 1924, a son of the late Nelson and Mary (Schreffler) Seebold. He married the former June Fertig on Oct. 3, 1948.
Robert graduated from Northumberland High School in 1943. He then played minor league baseball with the Allentown Fleetwings until he was inducted into the Army Air Force in 1943. He served in the Pacific theater and was awarded three Oak Leaf Clusters. He was discharged in 1946.
Robert was a retired salesman for a number of firms.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Northumberland, and was a former member of the church council. He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 44, Northumberland, a member of Free & Accepted Masonic Eureka Lodge 404, Northumberland, a life member of the Northumberland Fire Company No. 1 and the Sunbury Social Club, a member of the Union County Sportsman’s Club, and a volunteer for the Meals On Wheels program.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Dr. Robert N. Seebold and his wife Rhonda, of Danville, and Anne E. Seebold and her husband Ronald Dilks, of Mullica Hill, N.J.; four grandchildren, Robert J. Seebold, Daniel J. Seebold, John A. Schmidt, and Sarah Schmidt; and one brother, Dixon Seebold and his wife Susan, of Mechanicsburg.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Vennard Seebold.
A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced.
