John Joe Sciarra, long-time resident of Alhambra, California passed away on October 30th, 2011 at the age of 88, after battling prostate cancer for many years.

Born in Los Angeles, CA in 1923 to Italian immigrant parents,Theresa and Michael Sciarra, he attended Fremont High School in LA where he excelled in track and baseball. He went on to play minor league baseball and served in the U.S . Army in WW II.

In October of 1949 he married his loving wife of 62 years, Edith Giacopuzzi Sciarra.

He was a career employee of Beach Grocery Co. for 52 years.

He was a hard-working man who was totally committed and dedicated to his family, which he loved more than anything. He was a great provider, enjoyed all sporting events and loved to garden.

He is survived by his wife Edith, children Terri and Steve Korell, Mary Ann and Al Kratochvil, and Michele and John M. Sciarra, and their families, including 7 grandchildren, Elizabeth and Dave Milbauer, Meghan and Dustin Boyce, Kristin and Bryan Martin, Crystal and Scott Korell, Joyce and John P. Sciarra, Amy Kratochvil and Justin Sciarra, and 5 great- grandchildren, Owen and Lyla Milbauer, Tyler Korell, Will Martin and Gavin Boyce.

Memorial services will be on Friday, November 4, 2011. A Rosary and Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church at 2510 South Fremont Ave., Alhambra, CA 91803.
