Serge Schuster, of Old Forge and a former 25-year resident of of Vero Beach, Fla., died Friday morning in the VNA Inpatient Unit at Community Medical Center.

Born in Old Forge, son of the late Jacob and Mary Zavinsky Schuster, he was a graduate of Old Forge High School, class of 1938. On Sept. 5, 1943, he was inducted into the Army Air Force, to serve during World War II. During this time, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal.

For many years, Serge played baseball and retired as an umpire for the International League. He also was an arbitrator of the electrical contractors' union. Serge was a faithful, giving and devoted member of St. Tikhon's Monastery, South Canaan.

Surviving are a brother, Demetri and wife, Daria, Scranton; two sisters, Sonia Schuster, Old Forge; and Anna Schuster Quinlan and husband, John, Matawan, N.J.; two nephews, David and Michael Schuster; and two nieces, Daria Schuster and Mary Kozwara.

The funeral with military rites will be Monday at 9 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor, with services at 10 in the Monastery of St. Tikhon of Zadonsk, South Canaan. Interment, Monastery of St. Tikhon's Cemetery. Friends may call today, 2 to 5 p.m. Parastas services will be at 2.
