George R. Schonath, 67, of Oconomowoc, passed away Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc. He was born in Oconomowoc to the late George and Florence (nee Tinus) Schonath.
George was a graduate of Oconomowoc High School, Class of 1959. He was catcher on the high school baseball team in 1959 when the Coons won the state title. After high school, George signed a professional contract with the Philadelphia Phillies and played for their minor league team in Elmira, N.Y. He had a leg injury during his first year of action, ending his childhood dream. George also served our country as a member of the 32nd Division of the Army National Guard, which was called to a year of active duty in 1961 in Fort Lewis, Wash.
George graduated in 1965 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor's degree in finance. From college, he went to New York to work on Wall Street as an investment banker for Clark, Dodge and Co. He then transferred to the Chicago office for several years and ultimately back to Milwaukee.
In 1980, George was part of a group that started Bando McGlocklin Capital Corp., where he served as chairman of the board and CEO. BMCC was a small business investment corporation that financed owner-occupied commercial real estate.
In 1997, InvestorsBank was started to serve the banking needs of the entrepreneur and the commercial real estate investor. George was chairman of the board and CEO of InvestorsBank. The bank will continue to be a family owned and operated business bank.
