Arthur Ray "Art" Shillings

Athur Ray "Art" Shillings, 88, of Groves, Texas, passed away at home on December 23, 2008. Art was born on November 8, 1920 in Palmer, Texas.

He graduated from Groesbeck High School. He was a memeber of Masonic Lodge #354 of Groesbeck. Art played professional baseball with the Brooklyn Dodgers. He also served as a pilot in the United States Air Force during World War II. He was a deacon and a member of Friendship Baptist Church of Groves for over 60 years.

Art retired from Gulf Oil Corp. September 30, 1981 after 34 years.

He is survived by his daughter of Groves, Gail Girouard, his son, Dale Shillings (Denise) of Calgary, Canada; grandchildren - Brent Girouard, Lisa Hebert and Tandy Marcum (Glenn). Great grandchildren - Skylar and Hunter Sanford, Christian and Sierra Markum. He is preceded in death by his wife and love of his life for 63 years, Dorothy Lucille Shillings; his son, Gary Layne Shillings, his parents - Arthur W. and Agnes Shillings, and brother, Billy Shillings.

Funeral services will be held at Levingston Funeral Home on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a graveside service in Groesbeck, Texas on Monday, December 29, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
