Harold R. Chick Sands
Sr., 80, husband of Ida J. (Hagen) Sands, of Burgundy Circle, Red Hill,
formerly of Main Street, Red Hill, passed away on Thursday, December 17,
2009 at his home.
He and his wife celebrated 46 years of marriage in November. Born in East
Greenville, he was a son of the late Wilson and Alma (Koch) Sands. He
was a U.S. Army veteran of Korea. He worked at Philco-Ford in Lansdale
for several years then in production at US Gauge in Sellersville for over
30 years retiring in 1992.
After retiring in worked at Sands Auto Group for several years. He was
a 1947 graduate of Schwenksville High School earning 3 varsity letters.
He then went on to become a pitcher in the Philadelphia Phillies farm
system and was proud to have struck out Curt Simmons.
Survivors: Wife; four sons, Terry L. Sands and wife, Donna of Coopersburg,
Glenn S. Sands and wife, Barbara of East Greenville, Stuart W. Sands and
wife, Debra of Pennsburg and Harold R. Sands Jr. of Quakertown; 10 grandchildren,
Stephanie Folmar, Tracy Peart, Joshua, Matthew, Zachary and Emily Sands,
Michael Gaul, Jarod Sands, Rachael Mackie and Adam Sands and great-grandchildren.
He is predeceased by two brothers, Stuart and William Sands and a sister,
Charlotte Beyer. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mann-Slonaker Funeral
Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville with Rev. Rick Paashaus officiating.
Call 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
