WILLIAM W. SALEM, age
91. Beloved husband of Sophie M. (nee Tuma)(deceased); loving father of
Lorraine Salem Tufts, of FL, Diane Salem Malin (Peter), of New Zealand,
Murray Salem (deceased) and David Salem, of TX; cherished grandfather
of Lauren and Justus Harris; dear brother of Edward and the following
deceased: Victoria, George, Samuel and David; dearest uncle of Rosemary
Salem, his niece who lovingly cared for him for the last two and a half
years, and many other nieces and nephews. U.S. Army Veteran W.W.II.
Bill was a five-letter athlete at West Tech High School. After graduation
he was recruited by the Cleveland Indians, Class A division.
Bill was drafted into W.W.II where he served with the 29th Infantry Division
from Omaha Beach, across France to Germany, where he was wounded and received
a purple heart.
After the war, Bill had a distinguished career as the president of the
union for White Motors Trucking. He was devoted all his life to winning
worker's rights and universal health care.
A very active person, Bill loved gardening, golf, fishing, photography,
but especially his family and wife, Sophie, St. Matthews Church and Fr.
Funeral Services Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, at THE MALLCHOK FUNERAL HOME,
5660 RIDGE RD., PARMA, OH, at 10 a.m. and at St. Matthew Orthodox Church,
10383 Albion Rd., North Royalton, OH, at 11 a.m. Interment Holy Cross
