Stanley Rudy Sadich, 85, of Columbia passed away Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, at Boone Hospital Center.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, with funeral Mass following at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Stan was born July 2, 1925, in Woodriver, Ill., the son of the late Michael and Mary Sadich.

Stan was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II. He received his undergraduate degree from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College and his master’s degree from Indiana University.

He married the former Mary Catherine Quinn and was recruited and played semi-pro baseball for three years for the St. Louis Browns. Afterward, he began teaching in the public school system in Illinois, where he was instrumental in establishing the Little League Baseball program in Lawrenceville, Ill.

Stan continued in education and retired from the Columbia Public Schools system where he taught for more than 20 years, ending his career at Hickman High School as the COE coordinator. He also owned Columbia Driving School and taught countless students to drive.

He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes, the Optimist Club and the Columbia Ski Club. Stan was an avid sportsman, with a passion for hunting and fishing.

Survivors include children, Mike Sadich, wife, Sue, Mary Ann Scheneman, husband, Stephen, Steve Sadich, Brenda Wolf and Janet Brandecker, husband, John; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Virginia Ryan, husband Bob.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made for the construction of the new Catholic high school in Columbia. Checks can be made payable to Father Tolton High School, 903 Bernadette, Columbia, Mo. 65203.
