Stephen R. Rys, 83, of Holyoke, died on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Baystate
Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born in Holyoke, son of the late Stephen and Victoria (Koszewski)
Rys and was a graduate of the former Holy Rosary High School.
A United States Army Veteran of the Korean War, Stephen worked as a supervisor
for many years at Springfield Photomount Company, retiring in 1983. He
had played semi-pro baseball and had also played in the minor league system
of the Cleveland Indians.
He was a communicant of Mater Dolorosa Church, now Our Lady of the Cross
Parish and in 2011 was inducted into the Holyoke Catholic High School
Sports Hall of Fame for his outstanding play on the baseball and basketball
Stephen is survived by many nieces and nephews including Helen Gratkowski
and Richard Rzeszutek, both of Easthampton.
The Funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 9:15 a.m. from the Barry
J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke followed by
a Mass in Our Lady of the Cross Church at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will follow in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery, South Hadley.
Visitation will be held Wednesday morning from 8:00 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.
