Mr. Rychlak, a resident of East Norriton, was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years.
After retirement he was then employed as a bartender for Gulph Mill Golf Club for 35 years.
He was an avid golfer. Mr. Rychlak played professional baseball in the North Carolina Class D Baseball League.
He was well known in the area for playing softball in the Bridgeport, Norristown and Conshohocken Leagues.
He also played basketball.
He coached at St. Titus Girls Softball and basketball and led them to many championships.
He was a graduate of Sacred Heart Parochial School and Upper Merion Senior High School.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict and served in the U.S. Naval Training Center, USS Amphion (AR-13), Staff Administration, Commander Service Forces and the Atlantic Fleet.
Born in Swedesburg on Oct. 24, 1930, he was the son of the late Joseph and Agnes (Makot) Rychlak.
Surviving is his wife: Louise (Mazzerle) Rychlak; daughter: Linda Doyle, of Conshohocken; son: Edward J. Rychlak Jr.; grandchildren: Justin Monteleone and Danielle Doyle; and great-grandchild: Rocco Monteleone; sister: Anne Light.
He was preceded in death by a sister: Sophie Schmoll; and three brothers: John Jas, Charles and Walter Rychlak.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. from the Bernard S. Gutkowski Funeral Home Inc., 305 Jefferson St., Swedesburg, Upper Merion Twp.
Interment will be in St. Patricks Cemetery Mausoleum.
Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
