Jerold Lamar Riddle

RIDDLE Jerold Lamar Riddle - a long time resident of Mobile County, died at his home on August 20, 2009. Mr. Riddle was born in Mobile, Alabama on January 14, 1931 to Charles Haverley Riddle and Florence Lucille Mayher. He graduated from McGill Institute in 1948.

A good athlete, he lettered in tennis, marksmanship, football, and baseball. After high school, he played minor league baseball in the Cincinnati Reds organization with the Muncie Reds in Muncie, Indiana and the Lockport Indians in Lockport, New York.

In 1950, Mr. Riddle joined Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph and remained an employee of the Bell System for 38 years. In 1988, he retired from South Central Bell as a plant/area manager.

Mr. Riddle was a former member of St. Monica Catholic Church and a current member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Riddle and Florence Mayher Riddle; brothers, Charles Riddle, Jr. and Donald Riddle, Sr.; sister, Barbara Riddle Ireland; and great-grandson, Damon Michael Newburn. Jerold is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Eloise Trotter Riddle; his children, Connie Graham (Jim), Angela Knox (Phil), and Jerry Riddle (Katherine); his grandchildren, Michael Newburn, Stephen Riddle, Ross Graham, John Knox and Dave Knox; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to thank his devoted caregivers: Valerie Reed, Heather Reynolds, Cheryl Fells, Latonya Sewell and grandson, Stephen Riddle. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 2 p.m.

The family will receive friends at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street on Friday, August 21, from 5-8 p.m.

Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
