Bernard Christian Reymert Reinertsen, 87, formerly of Middletown, died on his birthday, April 17, 2010, at the Veterans Victory House State Nursing Home in Walterboro, SC.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1923 and was a long time resident of Middletown. Bernard was a proud member of the Dockbuilders Local 1456 of New York and New Jersey for 55 years.

He spent 24 of those years as a Business Agent in charge of New Jersey. Bernard spent 3 seasons (1942, 1946 and 1947) with the Brooklyn Dodgers AAA farm team as a starting pitcher. He was a veteran of the US Army, having served during WWII.

Surviving are his three sons and their wives, Chris and Gloria of Summerton, SC, Carl and Susan of Palm Coast, FL, and Eric and Marianne of Little Silver, NJ. Bernard is also survived by his six grandchildren, Amy, Erik, Bryan, Sarah, Alicia and Megan, as well as two great-grandchildren, Jaden and Madilyne. Bernard was preceded in death by his wife, Madelon, in 1958, and by his parents, Reymert Christian and Bertha Marie Reinertsen.

Visiting will be Wednesday, April 28, 2010 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. Condolences may be emailed to
