MILLBROOK - Robert L. Reed, 75, a local resident of Millbrook, NY, passed this life to an eternal life of perfect peace and everlasting joy on Sunday, February 20, 2011.

He was born to Edward and Mary Ellen Reed on May 30, 1935.

Robert (Peanut) began his baseball career at the age of 19. In 1954, he played for such teams as the Muskogee Giants and Gainesville Dodgers until 1958. He was inaugurated in the Dutchess County Hall of Fame. He continued to be a devout fan of the sport, watching baseball games both at home and at the stadium.

Robert was the owner of Reed's Plumbing and Heating in Millbrook in the early 1960's. He specialized in the industry until retirement.

Robert is survived by three children, Robert L. Reed Jr. and his wife Ka'Neen of Poughkeepsie, NY, Tracey Lynn Hicks and her husband Donnell of Poughkeepsie, Ronald Reed of Hyde Park, seven grandchildren, Ka'Vonna Farmer, Jasmine Gambino, Leah King, Simone Arnold, Trinity Reed, Rachel Hicks, Amber Hicks, great granddaughter, Giselle Arnold, a brother, Edward Reed of Pleasant Valley, a sister, Margaret Washington of Amenia, NY, several nieces, nephews and his friend Ruth Porter.

He is pre deceased by his wife Roberta (Bertsie) Reed.

Our father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend will be greatly missed.

Calling hours will be held from 10 am to 11 am Friday, February 25th, with funeral services to be held at 11 am at the Central Baptist Church in Salt Point, NY. The Rev. Butler will officiate. Burial will be in the Nine Partners Cemetery Millbrook, NY.

Memorial contributions can be made in Robert's memory to the Central Baptist Church.
