George R. ''Dick''
Redman, 84, of Bristol, died on Tuesday (March 24, 2009) at Ingraham Manor
in Bristol. Dick was born in New Britain on October 15, 1924 and was a
son of the late Julius and Helen (Carlson) Redman.
A lifelong Bristol resident, he graduated from Bristol High School Class
of 1943, and worked as a parts and service manager for Wasley Buick-Oldsmobile
from 1948 to 1958. He then ran Dick's Sandwich Shop on Main St. for 19
years before going to work for New Departure.
He worked for New Departure until retiring in 1987 and he also worked
part-time at Funk Funeral Home.
Active in sports, Dick played baseball in the St. Louis Cardinals minor
league system and for many years played in semi-pro leagues in Connecticut.
He was inducted into the Bristol Sports Hall of Fame in 2002.
Burial will follow
in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.
