DENVILLE, N.J. -- Robert Edmund Quirk, 82, died Nov. 7, 2010, from complications of Alzheimer's disease.

He was born in Manchester, N.H., April 17 1928. He graduated from Boston College in 1949 with a bachelor's degree in math and English. He was on a full basketball and GI bill scholarship. He was married to Patricia Gormley Quirk.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was a detective for the New Jersey State Gaming Commission at the Meadowlands race track. He was a minor league baseball player for Springfield, Ohio, Giants from 1948 to 1951. He played the positions of pitcher and third base. He loved to take car trips with Patty and play golf.

He was survived by his wife, Patty; and his step-sons, John, Ed, Hunter and Paul.

SERVICES: A memorial Mass will be held at St. Catherine Church, Mt. Lakes, N.J., at 11 a.m. on Thursday. Committal interment services will be on Friday at 1 p.m. at New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association , 400 Morris Ave., Denville, N.J. 07834
